Hmm, I don't think it's particularly sharp (my sense of smell, that is.) I definitely am not as bad off as you where I get physically ill, but that chain reaction does at least get to stage 1 or stage 2 of feeling a tiny bit queasy. If I get a breakfast or breakfast sandwich or something (not really a norm anyway) and I didn't feel like asking them to withhold the egg, and I open it up and that smell hits me in the face, I'm just like "ugh" and shovel the egg out as soon as possible. I can't tell if their smell is really just that strong, or I'm more sensitive to it. I have difficulty with salmon for the same reason-- the overpowering smell, even if it's with other foods, and even compared to many other fish. I doubt I have a particularly strong sense of smell so much as, perhaps, I'm a little more sensitive to what it's telling me than some people.
