First off I can't stand sites where moderators try to shove their powers up your ass and make you scared of them.
First of all, honey I have been a member of multiple forums since about 2000. I have helped forums come up and I have watched them go flat. I am not scared of some Voodoo Moderator. Then when I politely tell her why I edited my post (which I see is grounds for a 1 out of 2 strikes against my account) She flips shit and tells me that's arguing with a mod call! WTF!
Then some dude wonders in to my thread which had returned to normal and quotes her post and calls her a bitch! Now my thread has 10 replies and 1 is even from the Webmaster who is pissed. Like seriously, get off your broomsticks, if you want to ban me do it. grrr
What makes it even worse was before this I really liked the site. Now I have people blocking me who I have never talked to! Gah!

That would irritate me too. What a pain!!

I'm one of many people who have been banned from a UK folk dancing discussion list for making a comment the list owner arbitrarily deemed "off-topic". One of us started a Yahoo group primarily for the banned and I believe it has more members than the original group.



(Sorry, that was meant to represent a four-couple longways set, but it looks more like line-dancing ... seriously not my intention )

but i agree with you young pup, some mods do take thing ridiculously serious, I hate mods that make friends with some of the members so when an argument or spam comes along you end up getting the blame and the "mods friends" get treated like royalty >.<

Small communities are brilliant but in terms of being a newcomer you're a outcast from the start.

I have seen many forums die from lack of posters my philosophy was move onto another forum every 2k post count and every time i seemed to do so the forum died, which is when I gave up on small forums I don't want to be supporting a forum I don't own.

So yeah their a bunch or stuck up snobs because 1 they think they can run a site which i have news for you they can't no chance in hell and 2 they take sides to the people they know like you said before, which i understand I would give priority to people i know well on this site as opposed to some newcomer which like 30-40 posts and I wouldn't have trouble with that person leaving or me banning them if the person i knew well had a justifiable argument for me banning them which rarely happens. But you cannot stop the top posters from posting in my opinion because they are the reason that sites are still running.

But yeah thats just my experience of past sites.

The site i use to post on, which is pratically dead now has a selct few members who post there including the mods and admins. a year a go when i first signed up there where quite an amount of posters but the select group abused the newer poster with sarcastic comments and just insults. People would sign up say hi then never return, and because the admins or mods did nothing to stop this, less people joined and the people that did joined never posted. The banter got boring and a majority of the select few stopped posting. now there is about 1 post a day all due to the attitude of the members.

Good and lets hope it stays that way, if anyone has any issues just PM a mod/admin which are spotysocks,shadow,me(cardshark) and andy the admin.
