How are you today?
I can't really complain. I'm way too dettached this week to be bothered about anything or particularly happy either....

that's a nice balance, I think, to get work done

You're not straight, eh?

"Empathy Disorders" ?

If you were asking seriously (don't understand the quotations here  )

Not familiar with the mechanisms.

The specifics of brain function, to that extent, are not my strong point.

Some guy talks about empathy deficit..

he seems to have a few points, although he admits he came up with the term

I have no idea who he is or how believable is he. I also don't know where to look for these things...is there a database I can look, like some NCBI, psychology version?

I have to say I often think of myself as lacking in empathy. Most of the time I just don't give a f*ck about anything, as in: oh, another earthquake, more people dead...oh well. Stuff like that don't get to me at all.

And what have you noticed?

Do you think it's a "thing"?

I think there is some evidence to point in that direction. Perhaps it's a development concomitant with an increasingly individualistic society.

But it sounds one level more severe than mere individualism. I'd say it's bewteen psychopathy and individualism.

This is tricky, upbringing, enviroment, experiences and genotype all can affect the behavior of any one person.

You can find people very lacking in empathy, the extreme being psychopathy and then people who are very very empathic to the point people think it's something else, like you said

And just like that you cleared it up..

Hope you were able to rest up well. I had a long working day on Monday and in my one hour lunch break managed to get entangled with a car crossing lanes in front of me. We spent my lunch hour filling out papers for insurance purposes and my right wing mirror is shattered, needs replacing. No other harm though. It always makes a long day seem longer, somehow, when you lose that down time.

Just got home a little bit ago. Not feeling 100%, but otherwise okay. Hope everyone else is okay. Smile
