oh bless ...that hurts .... sure you already know but I suggest chondroitin and glucosamine , its supposed to help = ive had many injections in my elbows of cortisone injections so I can keep working - can you have those ? some people have one and that's all they ever need . I do sympathise though

My inflammation is due to systemic lupus, I take cellcept for it, but every once in a while it flares up. If it doesn't calm by Monday I will get some prednisone from my doctor

my brother in laws sister has lupus , now I understand ... she has just been in hospital for a good while due to the condition .......

Not that it's common, but if left unattended they could very well evolve into meningitis.
