Cridders88, that's a pretty respectable weight for your height, do you train at all?

By the way, your weight comes to 143 pounds in our system. How much is a stone in pounds?

A stone is 14 pounds. So yeah, 10st 3 pounds to be precise.

I have literally just started out at the gym as it happens. I used to weigh around 15st/210 pounds/95kg, and I lost all the weight from diet alone with little exercise. Now, I am pretty slim but am not toned at all. So I am now going to the gym 4-5 times a week, not to bulk up as such, but to tone up a little. I have skinny arms and a belly that has slimmed down considerably too from what it was, but it is not at all firm haha.

Sorry to shatter your illusion Rofl

Cridders88, OH, I hold no illusions, just ribbing you a bit for good times' sake.

Congrats on the gym. I absolutely have to face it due to so me diabetic problems. Luckily I have a free membership. At 19 stone 9 pounds, i. e. 275#, ( Most likely due to medication, I gained 12 pounds this last month) and 5' 11" I am in bad shape.

How on earth did you lose the weight by dieting? Any particular diet? That is really quite an accomplishment!

Basically what happened was we had been talking all day yesterday, and before I went to bed around 2AM being a night owl I sent him a text to wish him as restful a night's sleep as possible with his loss of a family member, and I woke up today to find his reply which he sent at 3:28AM. He said he was leaving a club extremely high and drunk, and basically told me to step off he was sleeping with an ex. I know I'm not much to look at, and I'm nothing but I would never treat someone like that or cheat. Ironic part is he text's me today like nothing happened, like I'm an idiot. lol Thanks again though for listening Cridders, and for the help. Bighug

Definitely. You should never accept someone doing that to you. And don't self yourself short. Clearly you can get a man interested in you, so, really that's all it takes. The rest is fiding a man that appreciates who you are.

As for the second part... Rofl Rofl Rofl

No worries, any time. But gawd, what a twat to put it mildly. You are well shot of him!

And less of the "I'm nothing" talk. That's bollocks Bighug

Totally. And as you said that is putting it mildly. Okay, less of that talk. lol I appreciate it. Smile

Thank you Insert. Yeah, I figured his past was the past sense that was before we met, and I proceeded slow with caution as I started with trying to build trust on the road to building something real, but that was unacceptable as you said. True, just have to find the right man who appreciate me for who I am and whom I can appreciate in return moving forward. Just have to keep at it, and not lose hope. Smile

How is that going for you? I have tried the gym in the past before and I have never stuck to it for as long as I have this time, I go with a couple friends which makes me feel more motivated I guess. I seem to be getting a really good feeling from the exercise too that I haven't felt before, sure, it's bloody hard work but I feel great after, if not a little achey haha.

People ask me this a fair bit. I have always battled with my weight through my teens and early twenties. I tried dieting several times and failed miserably. But something just snapped. I got real real determined. I wasn't happy at all as I was. Somehow, I found the discipline to be real strict with diet, cutting out all sugary foods, most carbs and eating lean meat, vegetables and salad the majority of the time. I rarely ate fast food, and didn't touch chocolate for over a year. I didn't go as far as cutting out alcohol as some people do, and still saw results. Somehow, and I really don't know how, I stuck to it and the weight fell off over a period of 18 months. I wasn't motivated to exercise at all back then, so I had to be real strict with my diet to lose the weight.

Now, I am not so strict on myself but I still have to watch what I eat or I start putting on again. It will be a lifelong thing for me to make a conscious effort to maintain this weight.

It is a lifelong thing. Sounds like you made exactly the right moves with the diet. I will start the gym early next week because I have somehow injured my left knee and it needs a bit of recovery. One of my docs has put me on a generous dose of a medicine that makes me drowsy as all get out. Another doc thinks the lack of activity has caused the weight gain. It's a mess!

I think I will make it my goal to get down to where I can have a drink or two. So frustrating that it aggravates my malady.

Keep up the good work, man.

And by the way, I still have that case of spiced rum in the pantry. Actually, I bought two since it was on sale, just in case you wanted to stay an extra day.

Thankyou man Smile. It does sounds like a catch 22 for you. Injuries and drowsiness certainly don't mix well with the gym. I guess just do as much as you feel comfortable with, gradually build it up. I wish you the best with getting to where you want to be Smile

A whole case for an extra day! I can tell this is going to be a very boozy affair Biglaugh You're on!

It's way easier to restrict your calorie consumption than to try and burn it by excercise after you've consumed it.

30 minutes of High Intensity Interval Training, for instance would shed about 350 calories. 30 minute of cardio kickboxing, some 300 calories. (Asuming a 70 kg person, normal, blah blah blah)

Do look at foods that pack 300-350 calories. You'll get depressed, probably, noticing how easy it is to consume them vs how hard it is to burn them with those relatively demanding exercises.

I don't think Si means a specifc "diet" but simply controling what he eats (which is actually not so simple, as we all know). To lose one pound per week you have to burn 500 more calories per day than you consume (1 pound of fat = 3500 calories). Ideally you'd have to combine a proper diet and a good amount of work out. But the food will always be the critical factor. Do that, and 70% of your job is already done.

Now, diabetes puts you in another area a bit more complicated but at the same time it can be easier. Easier cause you're forced by the disease to control the food you eat. Harder cause even more than for normal folks, keeping your Insulin levels in check is critical (Insulin removes glucose from the blood and promotes is use within the cell, but if there's an excess of it, be sure that Insulin will promote sugar to fat turnover via the TCA cycle and lipogenesis).
