Why do religious people not approve of homosexuality?

Religions reckon they represent 'good', therefore there must be 'bad'. But they're running out of things people reckon are bad. It used to be unmarried mothers, sex out of wedlock, alcohol, not going to church, swearing, nudity, other races and religions that were 'bad'... but no one gives a shit about hose things any more, so they're hanging on to this last thing they're allowed to call 'evil' - homosexuality.... aahhh! cross fingers. Actually fewer and fewer people are religious, but they're clever and make sure there are enough in marginal seats to be important in elections, so politicians do as they want... it is sick and nasty. Religion is a form of mental illness. anyone who believes there's an invisible superman in the sky who knows every thought of every person onthe planet and makes a list of their good and bad deeds, and at the same time creates and keeps running all the universes, as well as an invisible place in the sky called heaven where an invisible bit of you with no arms or legs or eyes or ears will go after you die... anyone who believes any of that crap is severaly brain damaged.

Big Brother, one of many parodies in Orwell's '1984', not THE main parody of the novel, but remains close to this funny fact of god as 'the one who knows everything about everyone'.

for me I would say because they are afraid of everything that might make make them ungodly - any thought they've ever had that might not have fit in

it's not just gays they're worried about - everything - every unholy thought

and if you come out and condemn it, you feel vindicated

everyone does it - gays included - just look how many gays condemn straight people for being straight and living their life

or worse condemn other gays for acting differently than they do!

and no I'm not being judgemental or excluding myself from being someone doing the same kinds of things!

Assuming the conversation with an anti-gay religous person....

Q)ask them if they believe that god basically makes everything on earth

A) "yes"

Q) Ask if god puts everything and everyone on earth for a purpose?

a) "yes"

Q) ask them if god is perfect and never makes a mistake?

a) "yes"

than smile and point out that God then also makes gay people and that he intends for us to be on this earth as much as straight people, otherwise we wouldn't be here. Confusedmile:

ahm...it doesn't work. it's not an excellent point. actually nothing works with these guys, believe me Big Grin. and i tell you why...

yes, yes, yes but you forgot about the devil who corrupts souls (means having fun with sex or just plainly makes them gay). so that's the proof that you guys are satans work. god has nothing to do with your perverted sexuality -- that's what they say...

now, it's your turn Big Grin

There is so much that I cannot understand ...

I cannot understand how anybody that follows a religion with all their heart can turn around and tell you, hand ON heart, that they believe in a deity who represents perfection and peace, love, understanding, charity and compassion ... but who will see you burn for all time for being what you have been made to be.

You might as well ask a clay statue to come to life as ask a homosexual to NOT be a homosexual - it's in our genes - we cannot help it - we are what we are, and I really, honestly, genuinely, hand on heart, cannot see anything wrong with that.

Another thing that I have difficulty with is these people who take one aspect of a religion, such as Christianity's apparent disdain for homosexuality, and turn THAT into some kind of unbidden crusade against us ... just because what ... it makes them feel better about themselves ?

My mentality is if we're not hurting anybody, why get in our way ? You'll just wind up being trampled by the Rainbow Army Wink

Added to which, whilst I am C of E, my religious take on life has always been to try and achieve a sense of enlightenment by just getting on with life, and learning to appreciate the wonder OF life as I grow and develop, and for me to see people that PURPORT to share my views on life and religion bending them in such a thoroughly dispicable way is, I feel, absolutely terrifying.

Fortunately we all have the strength of mind to view such drivel for what it is, but it's the damage that it can do to the young and impressionable that chills me.

Well, my two cents on the subject are this:

Religion wants straights so they can reproduce.
The reproduction creates children, who are drawn into the religion.
The children grow up and create more offspring to follow the religion.
The cycle continues.

So basically it's more or less the same thing as breeding livestock for food. Well, minus the whole food thing, and adding power instead. Because everyone loves a good theocracy.

But whenever some religious prick gets on me, if it's a guy I follow Ron White's example.

"You look at porn right?"
"Yeah, so?"
"You like hardcore?"
"Heck yeah!"
"Do you like the guy to have a little prick?"
"OH HELL NO, I like him to have a big throbin'..."
[insert sly grin here]

and every person I've met follows that template... if they dont', I start questioning them about what's so bad about it. Usually it's "god has condoned it". Well, then I ask if god has said that a mass genocide of humans should be set forth, would they follow and do it anyway? At this... most go silent... some try to recover by saying "Oh god would never do that..." riiiight... How do we know this god guy isn't just playing a sick game of cat and mouse with us? hehe... just little playthings... mwahaha..

SO much could be discussed in a such a simple question.

As I just mentioned in another post the original bibles in Greek and Hebrew never mentioned homosexulity, as a whole, just certain aspects of it that were not allowed. Sex with prostitutes, rape, where and when you could do it, etc. Just as the bible gives rules about straight sex (far more by the way than with homosexuality). Nowhere did god ever say no man on man (or girl on girl) action. In fact there are books in the bible that deal with this subject. The book of Ruth is a story of two lesbians, and there is the Book of David(?) I believe about a gay relationship. God made several straight forward commandmetns with no wiggle room....being gay was not on the list.

Over the years the translations from generation to generation have taken on the indevidual moors of the time and (mis)interpreted things to fit their social leanings. Ex. The original talks of being "soft". It meant soft in moral values and had to do with lending money. Over the years and several version later they turned "soft" morals into "soft of character" into soft of demeanor" = gay. Woila! Remember this has been going on for two thousand years.

What gets me though is how they all believe in a judgement day. So if we are wrong we'll have to face the music, not them. So why can't they go about their way. Nobody'sasking to have sex with them, get married to them....hell, who even cares what some straight couple I'll never meet in Bumsville South Dakota is doing? Why do they care about me?

Because if they spend their time talking about our sins they can ignore their own. THAT'S what this is all about.

People base their lives upon The Bible. They do everything that The Bible tells them to do. I think that's wrong becouse that's like brainwashing yourself. You can see with your eyes what's right, and what's wrong, not The Bible.
