Problem with a friend
#11
(Adam) It seems obvious that the woman has some degree of dementia. Instead of trotting her around to coffee hours, your friend should be attempting to contact one of her family members and see if they can intervene and get her the help she needs. Other than making a mess, she's putting herself at high risk for infections and serious skin problems.

I agree with the others who say not to invite either of them. For one thing, it isn't fair to your other guests to expose them to the smell, the mess and the bacteria present in fecal material.

That may not end up being the case. Take it from someone who wakes up in his own bedroom and sometimes doesn't know where he is.[/B]

I would definitely get help. And yes,I'm sorry but it is very annoying and rude for my friend and her to expect me to tolerate this. How would you like to smell crap when you're having coffee and cake.

I am afraid I would have to tell the guy....sooner than later.... that he will have to refrain from bringing his friend with him.

One of my worst (and sometimes best) qualities is having too much empathy for people sometimes and if I didn't draw a line I would be worried about how she felt and be putting myself in her shoes and once that happened I would probably just stop having the gatherings so I didn't have to hurt her feelings......this is when my empathy for other people sucks....and why it is sometimes necessary to draw a clear line.

Good Luck

I doubt she's aware that it's happening. Elderly can lose sensation/control down there. It's why they make Depends (adult diapers).

Also I forgot to mention she does wear depends. My friend saw it once when she bent over.He said he also saw a few shit stains near the hem of her new blouse. She obviously dosent know how to properly clean herself. Also he told me she used to be a home health aid.Now I find that extremely difficult to believe!

You need to have a haeavy sit down with your friend and ask him, for her own good, to advise the lady to discuss the situation with her doctor. It is also perfectly reasonable to tell thim that you are sorry, but that you have to stop having her as a guest. Not easy, but that is the way it has to be.
