I think just 'coming out a bit' would entail telling someone that you liked Katy Perry's outfits at the 2015 Superbowl, or something like that.

I think your idea of entering university as an out guy is pretty much workable. It seems like it could also spare you a good bit of awkwardness. Go for it. After you graduate in preparation for Uni, if you feel like coming out to someone, why not? Who knows but what you may even decide to come out sooner, but that is up to you and if you can avoid stress then that is good.
