OK, OK, Last DJ ... so you've lost your phone and you're out... Pray, tell us how it went. Who did you tell, and how did they take it?

I (and I'm sure I'm not the only one) want an account (as detailed as possible, given the stupor Wink) You didn't just come on here to tell us you were out...

Hope you are feeling OK about it and glad that you've finally opened up. I also hope it wasn't as bad an experience Scared as you might have imagined  . In any case, bravo Bow Clap and good luck Xyxthumbs
A Bighug to you.

Phone update - location still unknown, I'm going to have a curry and ponder where I might have put it. And to answer your question Mr Albert, this is how it happened:

It wasn’t a huge event, nor was it a revelation that shook the foundations of my social life. People have always known, if I’m honest. Other than a casual partner, I’ve never confirmed my sexuality to anyone.

Yesterday afternoon after a bottle of Jack Daniels I met up with a few friends. (Four girls, which isn’t unusual for me and is as big a sign as any) A very lovely looking boy walked past us so my friends promptly started drooling, then the question came my way – “Would you?” These sorts of jokey questions are common, and I usually give them a silly reply. Maybe it was the Whiskey, or maybe it was just giving in to what was a badly kept secret. So I was just honest.

One of my friends, with a smile on her face, said “So you are gay then?”

“Yeah”, I replied.

And that was that, got the usual questions for a few minutes. But as I said, it’s been a badly kept secret for about a year now so I think they were always waiting for me to finally confirm it. The funny thing was that no sooner had I told them, they were giving me boys numbers and trying to set me up with people.

It’s spread around now so I’ve been getting a lot of messages on MSN and Bebo, all of them positive and some as immature as you’d expect but the overwhelming response has been “Yeah I figured you were”.

Next up, my parents.

Thanks for the account, LastDJ. It's also nice to know that things went fairly smoothly for you. After all, as you said, it's no big secret and ought to be as easy as saying: "I'm five foot tall". Something obvious like that.

Regarding your parents, if others have figured you out, the chances are, dear LastDJ, that they have figured it out too and they are just waiting for you to be comfortable enough with the thought to let them know. I hope it won't be too traumatic. It is true that, sometimes, even suspecting parents can put it at the back of their heads and try to dismiss it as a possibility. Your mum is most likely than not to have noticed. Who do you think will be the most surprised? angry? disappointed? relieved? eager to know? etc...
Thanks for telling. It's good to hear about good experiences too.

PS You did look in the bottom of your shoes or boots, didn't you? I often go to sleep with the phone lying on the bed somewhere, so it might be tangled in some sheets or something like that. Do you do that?

I'm convinced that they have no idea, partly because I'm very quiet and enjoy my own company, so hardly ever say more than a few words to them. It isn't a bad relationship, it couldn't be better in terms of happiness - I just stay out the way, something I have been doing since I was very young. I also have one friend (girl) come round quite often and we go up to my room, we're just hanging out but my parents don't know that, the common thought is that we're an item.

My Mum would be happy whatever, we've joked about it before but it's never been taken seriously.

My Dad is an old fashioned, opinionated man who has often aired homophobic views, so that's my worry.

Boots and shoes checked, bed has been turned inside out - I think it's run off with my Sky remote.

My dad was the same until he realised he had a gay son. Then he stopped saying such things. Confusedmile:

And, I think I may add, that Marshlander's dad is quite respectful of the love we share. So that goes to show that he was doubly wrong.
