Gosh, Axle, just get a little bottle, like a pill bottle size and put the dressing of the day in it and carry separately from the salad.
Another possibility is to use a few drops of lemon juice on the salad. Spartan but tasty. Or you could add a few drops of olive oil to that. Of course the oil and your balsamic vinegar is a natch.
The Romans used a sprinkle of salt on their greens and thus we have the word salad.
The Greeks can leave out the lettuce completely and make a wonderful salad of tomatoes, green peppers, onions, kalamata olives, cucumbers, feta cheese and anchovies, all tossed with a bit of vinegar and oil.
LJay has now made himself hungry again. Damn.

Phew well went to the gym, did some weight training...then got on a bike and worked on that till my gym partner/trainer got there then hit the pool...did a total of 40 laps, only cramped once...always the arch of my foot. But he had me race the kid that he's also working with across the pool a few times...think that went on for 8 laps or so but I actually beat this kid 3/6 times...I will say I don't have the endurance but the first two times I beat him, so for it being only my third time swimming...ever (not counting kiddie pools or dog paddling) I'd say I did pretty good..
Also I know I told myself to weigh once a week in order not to get too excited/obsessed, but I did when I got home and down to 219...so I'm down 21 lbs since December 5....roll it back to September that comes to 29 lbs...
So very happy about all that but my work pants are starting to look noticeably too big...so need to dig out some old clothes lol.

I think I may actually get good at it... The biking is also going to be a challenge...aside from running...swimming and biking I've never done competitively... I have done one 5k...but it's going to be good challenge. I really maxed out my pulse last night...after doing the racing bits I think I was somewhere between 180-190...and that's about as high you want to go for my age, but strangely I felt really good afterwards...kind of like a runner's high. But I really want it this time...

Work for a company that does concrete. You can eat whatever you like and you'll likely be ripped.

hank I work in IT, I like it, good at it and have no desire to work in concrete making $10/hr with no health insurance or other benefits.

Axle,
Sounds like you are on the right path, so keep at it. I also work in IT, and sitting behind a desk all day does not help. Finding time to work out is difficult, cause we're all busy with "stuff" every day. And working out at home does not work for me cause I always have lots of "other things" that need to be done, and that would be all I think about while trying to carve out time to work out. However, what I've done for most of my life, there is a decent gym fairly close to my employer, and I have an hour lunch break. Sooooooo, I go there 3-4 times a week and do a work-out routine that keeps me pretty fit and in shape. I figure this, it's only about 40 min. of "actual" workout time (after you take out the driving time and shower), but it's better than nothing, and it's time I'd otherwise pretty much waste, AND my lunch-hour workout DOESN'T take away from "other stuff" I've got going during any given day.
So that's what works for me, hope you continue to have success!

The gym is about 10 minutes away from work and started the gym routine recently. I used to work with a this guy who is also a swim coach and I've done a lot of work with his website, computers, and even timed races he either was contracted to do or was putting on himself, so he approached me about doing a triathlon with him this summer and since I was already trying to lose weight...I decided to take it on. So I've been training with him during the week...and damn swimming is a heck of a workout...
I don't technically get a lunch break, but I do have time to eat, it's nuke your food or go out and grab something and come back most of the time... Of course been bringing my lunch, and worst case I have to leave the office and might have to re-heat or whatever.

I bring my lunch every day. Here is what is consists of:
one banana, one cheese stick, about 6-10 raw carrots, an apple (sometimes two if they are small) and a blueberry yogurt. Sometimes I'll throw other "in season" fruit in for a treat. Funny thing is, I don't get bored with it.
Breakfast is typically some instant oatmeal, dinner is pretty much open.
I've found by keeping my lunch heavy on raw fruit/vegetables (which I enjoy), it keeps my digestive track happy as well (used to have a lot of stomach problems/ulcers when I was younger).

I've been doing Oatmeal for breakfast - plain with dried cranberries, chicken & veggies for lunch and dinner is open as long as it is nothing fried... Also going to work in some fasting at some point once I get my schedule down. But yes, fiber is a big one. I have been avoiding sugars...no soda and really light on fruit. Drink lots of water and coffee...
