Do you care about Pride?

What do you think is going to happen?

This seems to be exactly what the dissenters find to be missing from our gay lifestyles. Apparently you are the very ideal definition of what we should all strive to be. I love it.

NativeSon What is up with which assholes? AlohaShannon has two children...I have one child...so yeah,I believe it's a huge Ring-a-ding-ding for both of us.

You ask, "What do you think is going to happen?" Well...stuff happens at some Pride parades that I don't want my little girl to see...NOT because I'm ashamed of it, but because she's simply too young to understand. You've said before that kids are not your thing, which is fine, but you don't need to be so dismissive of those of us who are parents. I'm raising my child alone, doing my best to be a responsible parent. There are plenty of straight events I wouldn't take her to, either.

I've taken her with me to events at an LGBTQ center, but I'm careful to be sure that they're family friendly. Some Pride parades are, some aren't. I do my best to make sure that anywhere we go is age appropriate for her.

With all due respect, may I politely inquire, What the fuck are you talking about? What's missing? Insight? Or, as appears to be the case with you, common courtesy and respect for those whose viewpoints differ from yours?

I'm not trying to single out Shannon or Pyro, just adding to the conversation.

I understand the point of trying to bring kids to events that are 'kid friendly'. As a parent, it's your job to figure out what is appropriate for your child(ren).

That being said, the world is not kid-friendly any more, just ask the parents of Saffie Rose Roussos, the 8 year-old killed at the Ariana Grande concert.

in the end, only you can decide what is right for your kids, and no one has the right to criticize you for the decisions you make, as long as your kids aren't hurt by those decisions.

I can say, having been to NYC pride a lot, I have seen my share of kids in attendance.

Pride is really meaningful to me, and I can't wait for this year's Pride. Last year, marching in Pride was like my last kick to say I'm gay and decide to separate from my ex husband. (rather than what I'd been saying for the year before that - bi but strongly preferring women). I'm also lucky because our Pride is just the right size, not massive but not too small, and we have a really warm thriving community here, which truly feels like family, so it's a wonderful experience.

Last year when I marched in Pride, I was totally alone in the city, I knew almost no one in the LGBT community and didn't have any real close friends in my city, and my family is across the ocean. This year, I'm going to Pride with my girlfriend (soon to be my live-in partner), and I'm leading a bunch of newbies on the march (I lead a support group in my city for people just coming out at a bit of a later stage, and I'm organising the whole day, the march, drinks, dancing...). I feel enormous joy about where I am in my life.

Here's part of what I'm wearing (attaching pic)... maybe I'll make that pic my profile pic....hmmm

Tell me your experiences or thoughts on Pride.

In my youth it "Meant Something" because one I was young, and two riding dinosaurs as floats was the thing back then.

Joking aside, here in the states my young adulthood years LGBT were badly mistreated and it meant something, we were fighting for something. I told you Dinosaurs Rolleyes

I feel pretty disconnected from everyone and anything, especially the LGBT community. There really isn't much left to fight for here in the States. After Mass got Gay Marriage passed the writing was on the wall.... The Whole USA was going to go to hell... What Fundamentalists said would happen if gays got the right to marry. They're right.

Now Pride seems like a person celebrating their own birthday every Saturday....

HIV Aids - not a big deal, gay marriage - oh well yeah its spreading across the states like the grey roots of a poor dye job.

IF Pride would now stop being a self focusing thing here in the states and really, I mean really focus on LGBT#$%dkl.... Whatever rights around the world, it might get back the meaning and full measure it did decades ago.

It's just that like clockwork I hear these same complaints (no kidding, the very same complaints) every single year. Call it frustration (maybe even a little boredom) but I ended up screwing around and talking out of my ass. I apologize for that. I truly didn't mean anything serious by it.

I, for one, have always and will continue to enjoy Pride (except for that one time when...oh, never mind). To me Pride is like a box chocolates. You never know what you're going get.

All fine and well for YOU. You don't want to fall into a box, nor does anyone else. As that song goes "Let it be".

Thanks. (I think?)

I'm off to Vegas now. Happy Pride.
