Barebacking?
#11
With reference to the original post, I don't think that porn studios have a 'social responsibility' to their audience but I do think that they have a 'duty of care' towards their actors. Asking them to do bareback is hardly thinking about their best interests. I would never knowingly buy bareback porn, as a matter of principle, I would not want to pay guys to have bareback sex albeit indirectly.

libertylove4 Wrote:Yes even then. I just don't want to take that kind of risk with my health. Call me pessimistic but I have seen many a relationship go sour because of cheating and I don't want to put that kind of trust into a person and end up with a disease for the rest of my life. It's just not worth that.

Considering the above do you think that married heterosexuals should also be using condoms? (Plenty of husbands cheat on their wives, sometimes with women of questionable repute)

Its not just their fault, you could have had a condom with you too, but didn't. Wink

[COLOR="Navy"]I wasn't saying that everyone should do that...if someone is comfortable in their relationship that is there decision, but for me like Marshlander said, my health is my own responsibility and I won't put that in anyone else's hands but my doctor, and even then I'm weary about whether they have my best interests at heart. Perhaps I have trust issues, but anywho, me for one will always use a condom no matter the situation.

I enjoy porn like most people but I don't feel comfortable watching bareback porn. It scares me. I think what you do in a committed long term relationship is possibly another matter. But before you give up the condoms you should both go to your local GUM clinic and get tested: it's the only responsible way and even then it's not 100 %. If Mr Dropdeadgorgeous looks interested in me/you who knows what we might be tempted to do. And since he's drop dead gorgeous, I imagine he gets more than his fair share of offers!

And thanks for the interesting Open Question, Libertylove. Nice one!

For me its a simple answer, I wouldn't have sex with a man without a condom unless I had been in a long term monogamus relationship with him and I knew we were both clean and was completely confident we were only sleeping with each other.
Knowing me as I know myself and knowing most guys as I know them that last sentence is pretty hard to come by so for me the condom stays on.

A number of years ago, in San Francisco, I was getting some porn from one of the largest shops... I asked about the growing popularity of bareback titles and wondered about the big studios. The shop worker laughed and said that all the big studios had secondary labels putting out bareback.

I guess the big studios have been following the trend for some time.

As for the actors... I have read some of the story behind Brent Corrigan and his entry into porn as an underage actor. I guess this is why there are laws concerning underage/immature (???) actors in porn. He reported that the director/producer gave them HIV tests that were being used in Europe... but these were bogus test kits.

Actors do porn for many reasons and as adults should be able to make up their minds to do condom or bb as the audience has the right to watch what they like, as adults.

I understand that studios like Falcon donate large amounts of money to HIV charities. I assume those charities produce info for safe sex.

I also know that there are studios that do bb with actors that are only positive.

I dont know what is driving the increase number of gay men infected... Yes, some dont know the history behind the devastation, some seem to not care as there is a treatment, some want to be infected - they even have "breeding" parties UGH - just a very complicated issue, but a good one as usual ll4.

One of the trends in bareback porn is to mention that the two or three people involved in the adult action are aware of the situation, or are both in a committed relationship (to each other) thereby meaning that this is like a normal couple filming their intimacy. It might mean that these two together (three together) trust each other to be non infected, (or they know themselves to be both positive, possibly) and if they are asked to perform on other films with other partners, then they will wear condoms anyhow. But there are also studios that probably push for the bareback for reasons that are less moral, or personal. Greed can be a powerful motor too.

I was dating a guy this past summer who had not had an HIV test since 2005. I refused to have sex with this guy until he got tested. I went to Planned Parenthood with him and even though I had only been tested 4 months before, I got tested again. This was to allay his concerns. It seems silly that, since I was pushing so hard for him to get tested, he would not get tested unless I got tested. He did not even want to fill out the paperwork and the nurses and I had to pressure him into filling out the paperwork. I told him what to expect and I told him approximately how long it was going to take to get the results.
Even after we both got our results back, I would not have sex with that guy without a condom. I am in the beginnings of what I hope to be a long relationship (don't we all wish they were long relationships Wink). I still will not have sex with the new guy without a condom. Safe sex is the way to go.
If we go a couple of years, I will have sex without the condom but that means that we have to both be monogamous and we both have to be regularly tested. I am a big supporter of HIV testing.
Now, here's the kicker, I enjoy bareback porn. I am not going to do it until I have established myself in a long term relationship but I see it as something to look forward to. In the meantime, I am going to continue having sex with a condom.
I make my own choices. I don't let the porn industry dictate my choices for me. I don't let any industry dictate any choices for me. When they start giving me some of the money they make off my back, then they can have a say in what I do. Because I like bareback porn does not mean I am going to do what the porn stars do. Hell! I don't even make the stupid comments they make in porn videos. My point is, if you are going to do what they do in the movies, you deserve the consequences. The porn stars have a right to insist that they be given a condom. If they choose the money over their safety, that is their decision. I will watch them at work and enjoy it. But, like I have no say in their decisions, they have no say in mine. It is called thinking for myself.

Quite. If you're entering a civil partnership expecting infidelity and so on, then are you in the right relationship?

I'd ask another question, also. How many use condoms for oral sex...? Most people would never dream of not using a condom for anal, but oral? Yet, it's not safe sex. Safer, maybe, but not safe.

Safer only inasmuch as it is a much less common route for HIV? Many nasty diseases can be passed on readily through oral sex. It often surprises me that these is so rarely mentioned. Ask anyone living with, for example, hepatitis how much fun that can be :frown:
