Where being gay is legal and gay marriage is allowed!
Posted by: andy - 07-02-2020, 09:34 AM - Forum: Gay-News - Replies (6)

Gabon is the most recent country to decriminalise homosexuality ”“ passing the law in June last year,

Costa Rica is the most recent country to have legalised same-sex marriage ”“ in May this this year ”“  and it is the only nation in Central America to have done so.

Gay marriage has been legal in Costa Rica since May 26, 2020 as the result of a ruling by the Supreme Court of Justice.

In Western Europe two countries ”“ Italy and Switzerland ”“ still don’t allow gay marriage, while no countries allow it in Central and Eastern Europe.

In Africa, South Africa remains the only country to have legalised same-sex marriage.

Universal Basic Income: Elon Musk responds to trials in US
Posted by: andy - 07-02-2020, 09:18 AM - Forum: US-News - Replies (4)

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has weighed in on the news that a series of American cities, including Los Angeles, may trial a basic income.

Universal basic income trials may be coming to nine cities in the United States, and it's caught the attention of Elon Musk.

On Monday, Forbes reported that mayors in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and other cities have all joined a coalition calling for basic cash payouts to everyone with no conditions attached. The coalition is called Mayors for a Guaranteed Income, and it was founded by Michael Tubbs, the 29-year-old mayor of Stockton, California. Tubbs told the publication that while the coalition will jointly advocate for basic income, each city will also work to host their own basic income trials.

The move comes as the United States grapples with both the coronavirus fallout and new conversations about racism sparked by the killing of George Floyd. Tubbs told Forbes he was motivated to announce the coalition due to these events: "if it’s not Covid-19 this year, it’ll be an earthquake next year, a hurricane the year after or fire. Folks need to build economic resilience in our cities now."

The announcement was praised by Bernice King, the youngest child of Martin Luther King, Jr., via her Twitter page Tuesday:

"Wow. A universal basic income (guaranteed annual income) was what my father recommended as a primary way to eradicate poverty. This is a powerful step forward."

Responding to King's post, Musk wrote:

WHICH CITIES ARE INVOLVED IN THIS? ”“ The following American cities have joined the coalition:
  1. Los Angeles, California.
  2. Oakland, California.
  3. Tacoma, Washington.
  4. Newark, New Jersey.
  5. Atlanta, Georgia.
  6. Jackson, Mississippi.
  7. Compton, California.
  8. Shreveport, Louisiana.
  9. Saint Paul, Minnesota.
  10. Stockton, California ”“ the city of the founder of the coalition, Michael Tubbs.

HOW WILL THEY PAY FOR A BASIC INCOME? ”“ While the coalition will jointly argue for a basic income on a wider scale, the cities themselves will pursue their own methods for hosting basic income trials. This could be through a private and public partnership, or through creating a working group that can find space in the city's budget.

Stockton could provide a model for how to host a trial. The Stockton Economic Empowerment Demonstration, an 18-month trial that started in February 2019 and is set to end in August 2020, provides 125 low-income residents with $500 per month. The project has received funding from the Economic Security Project, an advocacy group that supports trials like these.

WHAT ELSE HAS ELON MUSK SAID ABOUT A BASIC INCOME? ”“ The Tesla and SpaceX CEO has spoken out before about the need for a universal basic income. In November 2016, Musk told CNBC that "here’s a pretty good chance we end up with a universal basic income, or something like that, due to automation."

A lot of Musk's comments around the policy have been linked to growing automation. Musk has spoken before about how super-smart artificial intelligence could rise faster than policymakers expect, requiring them to act now in order to manage its rapid growth. Neuralink, a firm that's developing a connection between the human brain and computers, was founded by Musk with the aim to create a symbiotic relationship between humans and machines.

“There will be fewer and fewer jobs that a robot cannot do better,” Musk said at Dubai's World Government Summit in February 2017. “What to do about mass unemployment? This is going to be a massive social challenge. And I think ultimately we are going to have some sort of universal basic income. I don’t think we have any choice.”

Musk has spoken before about this issue with Andrew Yang, the Democratic presidential hopeful that dropped out of the ongoing race in February 2020. While Yang's campaign may be over, this week's announcement shows the policy is far from forgotten.

Update 07/01 9 a.m. Eastern time: An earlier version of this article described the Stockton Economic Empowerment Demonstration as "an 18-month trial that started in August 2019 and is set to end in February 2020." It has now been corrected.

Burger King renamed itself for pride in Mexico
Posted by: andy - 06-30-2020, 12:19 PM - Forum: Gay-News - Replies (2)

For some the word 'queer' is a defiant and unifying umbrella term to cover non-straight sexualities but for others remembering its use as a derogatory insult - prefer not to apply it to themselves. Perhaps for that reason, it's a term that many big corporates shy away from adopting, instead opting to just co-opt the rainbow flag instead.

Not so for Burger King in Mexico, which this past weekend used 'Queer' to mark Pride season. The fast-food chain changed its logo to 'Burger Queer' and produced some rainbow wrapping and tote bags for its menu items, which customers could order to be delivered via local delivery service, Rappi (a business similar to Uber Eats).

Burger King Mexico posted about 'Burger Queer' to its social media channels on Friday, prompting thousands of comments. Many came from homophobes outraged that the brand was celebrating LGBTQ Pride. Some applauded the gesture, while others were just a little confused.

The brand also changed its Facebook cover photo to feature rainbow-coloured moustaches (like the moustache used on the Burger King mascot), and the word 'A Tu Manera', which translates as 'Your Way'. The temporary change is expected to last for the remainder of Pride Month.

This is not the first time the burger brand has marked Pride around the world. It previously sold a 'Proud' rainbow-wrapped Whopper in the US.

Still want to go out without a mask?
Posted by: LONDONER - 06-27-2020, 05:04 PM - Forum: COVID-19 - Replies (13)

For those people who don't understand what it means to be on a ventilator but want to take the chance of going out without a mask...

For starters, it's NOT an oxygen mask put over the mouth while the patient is comfortably lying down and reading magazines. Ventilation for Covid-19 is a painful intubation that goes down your throat and stays there until you live or you die.

It is done under anesthesia for 2 to 3 weeks without moving, often upside down, with a tube inserted from the mouth up to the trachea and allows you to breathe to the rhythm of the lung machine. The patient can't talk or eat, or do anything naturally - the machine keeps you alive.

The discomfort and pain they feel from this means medical experts have to administer sedatives and painkillers to ensure tube tolerance for as long as the machine is needed. It's like being in an artificial coma.

After 20 days from this treatment, a young patient loses 40% muscle mass, and gets mouth or vocal cords trauma, as well as possible pulmonary or heart complications.

It is for this reason that old or already weak people can't withstand the treatment and die. Many of us are in this boat ... so stay safe unless you want to take the chance of ending up here. This is NOT the flu.

Add a tube into your stomach, either through your nose or skin for liquid food, a sticky bag around your butt to collect the diarrhea, a foley catheter to collect urine, an IV for fluids and meds, an A-line f to monitor your BP that is completely dependent upon finely calculated med doses, teams of nurses, CRNA’s and MA’s to reposition your limbs every two hours and lying on a mat that circulates ice cold fluid to help bring down your 104 degree temp.

Anyone still want to try all that out? Stay home and wear a mask when you go out! Stay safe and well!

What this article doesn't say, is that the patient can hear everything that is said so if the staff carelessly talks about death, the patient panics. If the sedatives are lessened, the patient panics because he can't breath or talk or, in his case, move. When they begin to lower the pain medications, the patient screams in his head but can't make a sound. When they take out the tubes it's extremely uncomfortable. A trachea may replace the respirator, the patient still can't talk or eat without a tube.

Panic At The Disco star blasts Trump campaign for using his music
Posted by: andy - 06-27-2020, 10:06 AM - Forum: Gay-News - No Replies

[Image: Brendon-Urie_PATD_120116_SLB_024-Edit-1.jpg]

Brendon Urie, leader singer for Panic! At The Disco, did not mince words when he tweeted his outrage at the Trump campaign for using one his band’s song during its MAGA rally in Phoenix this week.

“Dear Trump campaign,” Urie, who came out as pansexual in 2018, wrote on Twitter. “F*ck you. You’re not invited. Stop playing my song. No thanks, Brendon Urie, Panic! At The Disco & company.”

He followed that up with another tweet saying that Tump “represents nothing we stand for.”

“The highest hope we have is voting this monster out in November,” he added. “Please do your part.”

The band’s song “High Hopes” was played as Donald Trump Jr. made his entrance on stage at the event in Phoenix, which drew over 3,000 people, all packed shoulder-to-shoulder into the same room, with hardly anyone wearing masks.

Former pro soccer player Thomas Beattie comes out as gay
Posted by: andy - 06-24-2020, 09:39 AM - Forum: Gay-News - Replies (2)

[Image: soc_thomas_beattie_illustration_1296x729.jpg]

Thomas Beattie has come out as gay, becoming the first premier league male soccer star to do so since Justin Fashanu in 1990.

Beattie is only the third male premier league footballer in UK sporting history to come out as gay following Fashanu and Robbie Rogers, a US player who came out after leaving Leeds FC in 2013. He is the second Englishman to come out as queer in the sport.

The former pro began his career with Hull FC’s youth academy at 10 years old. At 19 he moved to the US on a scholarship, and played college soccer before playing at professional level in Scotland, Norway, Canada and Singapore.

“I never thought about coming out whilst playing,” he told The Advocate.

“I literally felt like I had to sacrifice one of the two: who I am, or the sport I loved before I could remember.”

“I was standing still on that front,” he said. “Society [told] me masculinity is linked to sexuality and so being an athlete playing a physical sport felt like a huge contradiction.”

Beattie came out as gay to family and friends three months ago. He then got in touch with some of his old team mates, who he said have “been amazing”.

“They know I’m the same lad I was 10 minutes before telling them so that’s been refreshing.”

Since a serious head injury ended his playing career, Beattie has been living in Singapore working as a model and businessman, in an environment he says has allowed him space to embrace his identity.

He says that by coming out publicly, he hopes to “find contentment”, but also make life easier for others in his shoes.

“I don’t want people in sport, especially, to continue to feel like they have to sacrifice who they are to co-exist in sport,” he said.

“Silence is safe and I could have gone down that road but I have found purpose in the challenge of speaking and being a voice for a community that until very recently petrified me.”

He wants to serve as a role model for queer sports fans, as well as for players, who are often subjected to the same homophobia which dominates the sport.

Of this atmosphere of discrimination, Beattie wants to help create real change.

“This is a systemic and institutional issue, therefore there needs to be a real plan to address this systemic challenge that keeps our athletes living in silence and secretly in the closet.

“I think that gay athletes need to be at the table to help and I’m hoping I can be one of those voices for change in football.”

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow and Scott Hutchinson are "pregnant" with three girls via a surrogate and Barrie says husband Tony, who he still lives with in Florida, is supportive.

A man who became one of the country's first gay dads welcoming twins back in 1999, is now set become a dad again to triplets - with his daughter's ex-boyfriend.

Barrie Drewitt-Barlow married Tony 20 years ago and hit the headlines as one of the first gay couples to have a twins via a surrogate.

But after they split up, Barrie found love again with Scott Hutchinson, who used to date his and Tony's daughter Saffron, 20.

Tony, 55, who was with Barrie for 32 years, says he has no plans to divorce and is still living in a separate wing of their £6million marital home in Florida, USA.

Tony and Barrie's first children together were twins Saffron and Aspen.

Barrie, 50, told The Sun : “I am overjoyed to share the news that Scott and I are pregnant with triplet girls. We are using a surrogate and she’s fallen pregnant at the first attempt.

“Our family has too many boys and too much testosterone! So we used sex selection to even things out.

Barrie and Scott say Saffron has given her blessing for their relationship, adding that as long as they are happy she's "not bothered".

The couple have just flown to the UK for a romantic break to celebrate their news.

Jim Parsons feared talking about his sexuality would cause trouble for TBBT
Posted by: andy - 06-21-2020, 10:50 AM - Forum: Gay-News - Replies (3)

[Image: jim-col1_770.jpeg?paTeQUZBdziUeOw.1sa3QtHtf5FfANyt]

The Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons kept quiet about his sexuality out of fear he would 'cause trouble' for the show.  Jim has been married to TV producer Todd Spiewak since 2017 and they were been together for 14 years before that.

The 47yo became a household name when he starred as Sheldon Cooper from 2007 to 2019 but during the early days of the comedy sitcom he was fearful to make his relationship public knowledge.

”˜I was 33 when I started doing The Big Bang Theory [in 2007], and things started to become much higher-profile very quickly. So I wasn’t some spring chicken,’ he told Hollywood Reporter.

”˜But I hadn’t grown up even close to the era we are in now, as far as what it meant to tell somebody you were gay. I think it’s undeniably different than it was 20 years ago.’

”˜I was scared,’ he continued. ”˜I wasn’t scared about losing my job. And I wasn’t scared to the point of denying my sexuality. But I was scared enough to make it my mission not to talk about it.

Jim has been married to Todd Spiewak since 2017

”˜I was scared enough to be nervous the first time I was even nominated for the Emmy. And I was scared that it might cause trouble, quote unquote, for our big television show.’

His first major role after The Big Bang Theory couldn’t have been a further cry than Sheldon Cooper.  Starring in Ryan Murphy’s scandalous Hollywood, the star played real-life sinister celebrity agent Henry Willson, notorious in showbiz for promising his male clients the world in exchange for sexual favours.
