Correct me if I'm wrong, but the next edition of the Oscars could be amazing, especially the best actor category.

- Ralph Fiennes in The Grand Budapest Hotel

- Jake Gyllenhaal in Nightcrawler

- Michael Fassbender in Frank

- Michael Keaton in Birdman

How can you possibly choose?!

I love Michael Keaton and I haven't seen his performance yet but my favorite so far is Ralph Fiennes. He was so brilliant and energetic in Wes Anderson's movie, even my teenage students loved him - I showed them a clip and then they posted a review of the hotel on TripAdvisor.

Gyllenhaal is a got bet too, he was brilliant in Nightcrawler, the press loves him and he's very influential in Hollywood.

I loved the Jurassic Park series...just for the visuals if nothing else...so I can't wait for this next one. The plot is weak...sounds like they ripped off Aliens 4 : Resurrection...but I can live with that...

Did anyone see the short film Grind? It was a musical movie entered in a bunch of film festivals this year and won a significant amount of awards. It starts out being really fun but the ending really throws you through a loop. I'd love to discuss it with anyone who's watched it If you google it, it's available free online for anyone's who's interested.

Anyone seen Blended? I just saw it for the first time and it was hilarious! If you have seen it, what did you think?

The Huffington Post featured an interview today with the playwright behind Steel Magnolias, which he wrote in memory of his sister (who became Shelby in the play/movie).

This play/movie along with Moonstruck are among my OGT's. I have also seen it on stage a few times, most recently in California with Bonnie Franklin (who died not too long after) as Ouiser. She was a steel magnolia in her own right.

Most of these, however, were news to me, so maybe you will find them interesting, too.

I've been keeping up with a story that was posted (can't remember if it was here or another forum), it was about a teen, Eric Martin, who was beaten and hospitalized after standing up to bullies in school, to make it worse he now faces assault charges for trowing the first punch and is not allowed to return to school until he signs a document saying that he threatened the school. I'm not really surprised by this because it did happen in Virginia, there's certain places people still shouldn't go because of race.

Eric's mother started a campaign called letters for Eric to show love and support for him. the story is here and there is also a facebook page for letters of love for Eric . I really hope the school and authorities can show they still have some kind of compassion and drop the charges.

He states the book, with which he hopes to help gay teenagers cope through humor and self-revelation (literally), gives a brutally honest look at his life in high-school while trying to accept his sexuality.
