What 'ruins' a movie for you?
Posted by: CellarDweller - 10-19-2014, 02:57 AM - Forum: Movies - Replies (45)

There are a lot of things that will spoil a movie for you, but I'm not talking about the usual things like 'spoilers', bad acting, or bad plot/story.

What are certain things that can happen in a movie that will ruin it for you?

I am a horror movie fan, so violence normally doesn't bother me, it's expected in a movie of that genre.

That being said, if any sort of violent act takes place against an animal, the movie is shot for me, and I can't watch it.

Example.......I was over with friends a few years ago, and they rented "Drag Me to Hell". For those who haven't seen it, it was about a young woman who was a mortgage rep, who refused to help an old lady with her overdue mortgage. The older woman was a gypsy and she cursed the young woman. The curse involved a demon that would terrorize her for 7 days, and then drag her to hell.

when the supernatural stuff happened, a psychic told her that sometimes an animal sacrifice would appease a demon. The young woman (who had a kitten) said that she couldn't do that, she was a vegetarian.

She was then demonically attacked later that night. When it was over, you see her in the shadows with a knife raised...going 'here kitty kitty kitty'

I turned to my friends and said : turn it off turn it off turn it off turn it off!

Just tonight I was watching a SyFy movie called "Finders Keepers" and at the beginning they kept showing footage of some cats. Soon enough, the owner was looking for them, and I knew what was coming, I flipped the channels for 2 minutes until I knew it was over.

LOL

So, what totally messes up/ruins a movie for you?

Hi guys,

My good friend Sam and I started a podcast called 'A Little Bit of This', available on iTunes and released every sunday!

We had both decided we wanted to do something besides xbox and beer at the weekends so this was the result - Film reviews, video games, ravings, and the excessive price of prawns.

if you wanna check it out the feed is here - https://kiwi6.com/artists/ALittleBitOfThis/feed.rss

Episode Five - The Shining and Flash Gordon, featuring live conkers!

Egypt’s Escalating War on Gays Just Landed 6 Men Behind Bars for 2 Years

There are times I think the progress of gay rights is too painfully slow in my own country, but this puts in perspective that things could be worse.

OK, this summer we went to London and I wanted to see the Book Of Mormon (the Musical by the authors of South Park). It was hilarious, and we had laughter and tears watching this brilliant and very caustic production.
Hello!!

... and he believes!

Then as we came out, it was still daylight and I said to Marshlander: "Why don't we go and see that gay themed film I saw advertised in the tv guide? You know, the one in which there is Ben Whishaw, the openly gay actor who's been awarded BAFTAs and everything..." That would make it worthwhile. So we trundled off to the Barbican, the only cinema that seemed to be showing it at the time that suited us, and we went into the auditorium...
Of course, there were almost nothing but gay, or lesbian couples in there. The odd single person (straight???).

The film is Lilting, by Hong Khaou.

The director of this fine film is of Cambodian extraction, and he's done a piece on loneliness, on estrangement, on immigration, on loss... The film studies what happens to a person when they lose their raison d'être (their reason for living) whether they live in an old people's home, or as a young professional man. A very warm, sensitive, and heartfelt movie, which I really recommend from this intuitive director who also did an interesting couple of short features previously.

Follow Up on woman with problem
Posted by: Guest - 09-08-2014, 04:20 AM - Forum: Everyday-Stories - Replies (3)

A few weeks ago I told you about my friend who brings the woman to my house who dirties my bathroom.Well I told him point blank how I feel and as luck would have it one day she didn't come with him because she was tired. From then on she's been making excuses. He thinks he knows why.The last time she was here he had me take out my laptop and look up pictures of naked male celebrities. He said the reason he did this is because even though she knows he's gay she likes to think they're a couple by saying it's their 3rd anniversary when in reality they've only been friends for 3 years. By looking up nude men he wanted to give her a dose of reality.Plus she feels left out and she gets tired walking around the mall with us.So he said to her it's better if he comes to my house alone because she feels she doesn't have anything in common with us and he'll only bother with her when he's in his own neighborhood.Problem solved.I'm so glad.I don't have to worry about her crapping and nauseating me.Isn't this great.

  Worst LGBT films
Posted by: Guest - 08-28-2014, 04:58 PM - Forum: Gay-Movies - Replies (28)

Does anyone here have any LGBT films which they particularly dislike and if so which ones and why?

There're quite a lot of deep, meaningful LGBT themed movies out there which are brilliant and absolutely amazing but at the same time there are ones which are pure trash and try to be amusing but for some reason fail. I wasn't too sure about Another Gay Sequel: Gays gone Wild (2008) where a group of typical, young gay men go to Fort Lauderdale (a seaside resort that sort of seems to be an equivalent of Ibiza or Tenerife in Europe) and basically try to get laid. It's just very crude, not really amusing or sexy. The only funny side is the atrocious acting. I found it hard to watch and in fact couldn't sit through it all as it was that bad.

I haven't really seen the first one but understand that it is just a straightforward parody of American Pie. I never really liked American Pie so wouldn't fancy seeing that one either.

  31 Days of Halloween Challenge
Posted by: Guest - 08-21-2014, 02:19 AM - Forum: Movies - Replies (23)

Hello All My New Friends,

I'm a blogger who loves horror films and writing movie reviews. In the month of October, in celebration of my favorite holiday, I will be posting a new horror film review on each day. So, I need to start watching and writing reviews now so that I can keep up once I hit October and post 31 unique reviews. I want to review old horror films, new horror films, good horror films and bad horror films (sometimes watching the bad ones is a ton of fun all in itself).

I may even try to review some of the new horror films premiering in the theaters in October. I'm starting this thread to get some ideas and opinions of films I should watch and review. Please give me suggestions and opinions of this undertaking. I'm excited to see your thoughts. I thank you ahead of time, and if any of you are huge horror lovers please let me know.

  Netflix and Gay Cinema
Posted by: Guest - 08-06-2014, 03:39 AM - Forum: Gay-Movies - Replies (45)

So, I have Netflix instant streaming and I love it. They have a decent amount of LGBT films to watch on there.

I'm pretty impressed actually. Is anyone else watching gay films on Netflix? I recently watched a gay foreign film called 'Free Fall'. Has anyone else seen it? It was really amazing. They call it the German 'Brokeback Mountain'. I highly recommend it.
