Some time ago I posted a thread about the campaign to have Alan Turing's portrait on a British banknote. For those unaware, Alan Turing was the mathematical genius who, with his team, broke the German Enignma Code, a feat that probably shortened WWII by two year and saved thousands, maybe millions of lives. For his effort, he was prosecuted because he was gay. Turing was granted a Royal pardon by the Queen.
Now a campaign is being mounted to have some 50,000 or maybe even as high as 70,000 LGBT men and women also pardoned. Why? Well, many of those men and women who had their lives and reputations ruined still have criminal records. Criminal records for being gay! A pardon would mean that all traces of any conviction would be wiped from the records. Haviing a criminal record has implication. It means travel restricions to some countries and difficulty in obtaining emploment for instance.
