I know what they were trying to do, and they did it, it just wasn't a very good thing to do. I don't see why everyone thinks it's so clever and important. It's not.
It felt like there were pretentious movie-geek people inside my TV screaming comments in my ear, and it wasn't pleasant.
It felt like a jazzed up sequel to Scary Movie.
People are so used to seeing complete trash and over-used clichés within the slasher subgenre that anything slightly more subversive and ambitious will be praised as revolutionary. Scream didn't really do that much except referencing every horror movie ever made and going a little meta here and there but it's received similar praise. I like both movies though, although I'll agree that they're overrated.
The last movie I watched was The Birds. It was good but not as much as Rebecca, Rear Window or Psycho.
