Unfortunately, this has also happened to me to walking down the street holding my bf's hand. My response was as childish as their behaviour; I just gave them the two finger salut. It actually made me more angry that they got a rise out of me than what they actually said.

The truth is they're just ignorant; they don't understand what it means to show affection to someone you love. We should be sorry for them. With attitudes like that they'll eventually get themselves into a situation with someone who won't just take it in stride like you did.
