  Naked Boys Singing
Posted by: Hyde - 03-30-2008, 02:34 PM - Forum: Gay-Movies - Replies (13)

Hey,

a few weeks back I bought the DVD version of the off-Broadway show, Naked Boys Singing. It was what it says it is; Naked Boys Singing. 10 young gay men take their clothes off and walk, sing and dance around the stage - naked. Songs referring to being a naked maid, a 'perky little porn star'. You can buy the DVD with their penis' censored and uncensored.

Sadly there aren't any videos I can find on the net to show you, and because of the nudity You Tube don't allow it. If you have iTunes search 'Naked boys Singing' and you can listen to 30 second clips of the songs form the show.

Has anyone else seen it? Big Grin

For a friend who's been asking:

Does anyone know of a film about a world in which gay people are in the majority??? The film is set in the USA, apparently. It may have been discussed recently (within the last two months, probably). Can anyone help??? I don't know how to look for this.

  The Budget
Posted by: Smurlos - 03-13-2008, 04:03 PM - Forum: UK-News - Replies (5)

So, this week was the UK budget.

Darling appears to have increased pensions and benefits for the elderly... which is a good thing. He will apparently be increasing child benefits from April... good for those who need it.

Alcohol tax has gone up (good for stopping binging... bad for the already struggling leisure side of the economy!!!)

Cigarette tax gone up (good! maybe it'll stop people smoking?)

I like the idea of the 4x4s and high polluting vehicles paying more tax.

I don't like that he has not thought to do anything in the sectors we're all feeling the pressure in though!

I also like the idea of them making it harder for disabled people to claim disability allowance. Too many people are too eager to turn to it and sit on their lazy arses all day long Confusedmile:

Will & Grace creators to produce new gay-themed comedy
Posted by: andy - 02-20-2008, 09:42 AM - Forum: Gay-News - Replies (1)

[img2=left]http://www.gayspeak.com/forum/images/news/willandgrace.jpg[/img2]American TV network ABC has ordered a pilot of a gay-themed comedy from the creators of Will & Grace.

It is one of the first major TV deals to take place since the Hollywood writer's strike came to an end last Tuesday.

According to Hollywood Reporter, the untitled project revolves around two men, one straight, one gay, who are lifelong best friends and business partners. Both of them are in serious romantic relationships and try to find a balance between their allegiances to each other and to their significant others.

The central characters mirror the relationship between Will & Grace creators David Kohan, who is straight, and Max Mutchnick, who is gay. They have been friends since their teenage years at Beverly Hills High School.

Last development season, the duo wrote a CBS pilot revolving around a gay writer, a straight writer and their hot young assistants.

The ABC project is brand new, and was written speculatively before the strike began on November 5 last year.

Warner Bros. Television, where Kohan and Mutchnick have a production deal, shopped it to the networks immediately after the strike ended.

Crackdown on gays proposed in Bahrain
Posted by: andy - 02-18-2008, 08:15 AM - Forum: Gay-News - Replies (3)

[img2=left]http://www.gayspeak.com/forum/images/news/bahrain.jpg[/img2]MPs in the Gulf state of Bahrain are calling for a range of measures to be taken against gay people in the country, including deporting foreigners suspected of being gay.

The country only held its first elections in 2002, and since then politicians have mainly addressed themselves to "moral" issues such as banning female mannequins from shop windows and tackling the widespread problem of "sorcery."

The bi-cameral parliament is dominated by Shia and Sunni Islamist parties.
The foreign affairs, defence and national security committee has backed proposals to tighten immigration checks to stop foreign gay people entering the country.

"The Interior Ministry has told us that it already bans suspected homosexuals as they try entering the country from Bahrain International Airport," committee secretary Jalal Fairooz told Gulf Daily News.

"They look manly as they come to the airport, but when they get in they return back to their unaccepted homosexual attitude.

"Homosexuals are found in huge numbers at hairdressing salons and beauty and massage spas, which the ministry regularly inspects.

"Those who look homosexual or offer customers personal services are being caught by police and taken to the Public Prosecution."

Mr Fairooz said that homosexuals were a "threat to our society and Islamic values."

The committee is also proposing that a study be carried out to ascertain how widespread homosexuality is in the country.

Gulf Daily News reports that "the Education Ministry claims there are no homosexuals in schools" in Bahrain.

The proposals will now be considered by the Bahrain parliament's general-secretariat.

In 2006 a Kuwaiti tourist was convicted and fined for having gay sex with a Bahrain Defence Force (BDF) recruit.

The Lower Criminal Court in Manama handed the unnamed 23 year old man a 100 Bahraini Dollar fine after he was found naked in a car with a 22 year old Bahraini on the seafront.

Census question is about sexuality not sex
Posted by: andy - 02-14-2008, 08:18 AM - Forum: UK-News - Replies (14)

[img2=left]http://www.gayspeak.com/forum/images/news/ons.jpg[/img2]A proposal to include a question on sexuality in the next UK-wide census has been backed by trade unionists and the Green party, but caused confusion among some people.

A senior researcher who is an expert on LGBT issues said that any question must focus on sexual identity and not orientation.

The academic, who asked not to be named, explained:

"Some have put forward the argument that such a question involved someone's private sexual behaviour or 'a private life.'

"In fact being a gay man, as opposed to being a 'man who has sex with men' is all about being public.

"Sexual identity is concerned not with people's sex lives but with their identity. That is why the phrase "sexual orientation" is troublesome."

Gay equality organisation Stonewall yesterday joined forces with the Trades Union Congress to ask for questions on sexual orientation to form part of the census.

The next national survey will take place in 2011. It is conducted every 10 years by the Office of National Statistics (ONS) and every household in the UK is legally required to fill out a census form.

On the issue of sexual identity vs. orientation, a Stonewall spokesperson said:

"National Statistics uses the term sexual identity to describe its work in this area, and Stonewall is fine with that.

"We are more interested in ensuring that good robust data is collected in the census on lesbian and gay people, so organisations such as health trusts and police forces can deliver good services to the community."

The lack of a question on the census has led to other social research organisations to exclude questions on sexual identity, often citing the lack of a standardised question.

Most noticeably, the British Crime Survey fails to ask respondents about their sexual orientation, despite government and police initiatives around homophobic crime.

At present, the question about religion is optional and it is thought that a question on sexual identity would most likely also not be compulsory.

It has already been confirmed that there will be an option to record civil partnership alongside marriage on the 2011 census.

Today the Green party called for gender identity to feature in the census.

"We will make these concerns strongly to the ONS in our lobbying," said LGBT Greens spokesman Phelim Mac Cafferty.

The UK would be the first country in the world to include a question about sexuality on its census.

Information about individuals collected from the census is secret for 100 years and only the aggregate statistics are published.

Final decisions on the content of the 2011 census will not be made until the consultation and testing programme is complete and Parliament gives formal approval in 2010.

A White Paper setting out the Government's proposals is scheduled for the autumn.

Last month it was revealed that just one in 100 people described themselves as gay in a government survey into British sexuality.

A further one in 100 describe themselves as bisexual, 0.6 per cent said "other" and three per cent say they were not willing to declare their sexuality to the Office of National Statistics (ONS).

Some failed to to answer the question properly; responses included: "female", "normal", "not active" and "I am OK with my sexuality."

The Office of National Statistics asked 4,000 people but admitted that the results of the survey were "not a reliable estimate" of the gay population.

Heavy metal star encourages fans to come out
Posted by: andy - 02-14-2008, 08:14 AM - Forum: Gay-News - Replies (4)

[img2=left]http://www.gayspeak.com/forum/images/news/robhalford.jpg[/img2]The lead singer of legendary British heavy metal band Judas Priest has spoken about being a role model to his gay fans.

Rob Halford came out in 1998 in an interview with MTV.

The band, nicknamed "Metal Gods," have sold more than 35 million albums.
Halford left Judas Priest in 1993 after 20 years, but rejoined in 2003.

In an interview with Metal Edge magazine, the Walsall-born singer said that people from all walks of life are into metal music.

He said coming out was like "freeing yourself" and said that his action had helped other metal fans to do the same.

"It was no big surprise to me to find that there were other gay metalheads, it's an absolute fact," he said.

"I would get some of the coolest emails, especially from younger metalheads struggling with their sexual identity, saying "because you did what you did, I was able to tell my friends at school, or tell my family, or whatever, and they've accepted me."

"And you don't expect that, so it's an absolutely wonderful thing to see and hear about.

"What I always tell people is, you're not alone going through that struggle, that a lot of us have gone through that struggle, and the most fulfilling and freeing thing you can do to yourself is come out and be straightforward, and let everybody know who you are."

Halford, 56, said it was "heartbreaking" to hear of young people being forced out of their homes for being gay but "that's unfortunately still part of the world we live in."

"People say really hateful things about me sometimes on message boards and blogs or whatever, but it has no effect on me, because I'm not hiding anymore, and it's ridiculous to make that kind of statement. It has absolutely no value. So I would encourage people, if you can, to face the moment and say "This is who I am, take it or leave it.""

I saw it on friday night...

(I didn't really want to, but I went so my 11 year old sister could get in.)

So basically, it completely bloody blew me away. It's funny, happy, sweet, beautiful, clever and life affirming in all the right places.
And I totally understand why the main character actress is nominated for an oscar - she so very much deserves it! Blistering performance!

AND Ellen Barker was great in it (she's great in pretty much everything she's in...), AND normally Jennifer Barker gets on my nerves, but here she played it just right. I was a *little* annoyed at Michael Cera for playing pretty much the same simpering-teen he played in Superbad, but luckily he's brilliant at it, and it fitted the part.

Anybody else seen it yet? What did you think?
