Rape Insurance in Michigan
Posted by: Guest - 12-12-2013, 06:02 PM - Forum: World-News-Forum - Replies (13)

Quote:(Reuters) - The Michigan legislature on Wednesday approved a proposal that would make it the ninth state to prohibit insurance companies from offering abortions unless women pay a fee in addition to the premium.

The proposal, which was brought before the legislature as an initiative petition organized by Right to Life of Michigan, an anti-abortion group, was approved in the House and Senate, both of which have Republican majorities.

State senators voted 27-11 and representatives 62-47 to make the "Abortion Insurance Opt-Out Act" proposal law. Under Michigan's constitution, such voter initiatives become law 90 days after the current session ends, without the need for Governor Rick Snyder's signature.

Snyder, a Republican who identifies himself as pro-life, had vetoed a similar measure lawmakers approved less than a year ago. Snyder said in a letter to constituents the bill went too far because it treated situations involving rape and incest as elective abortions, and interfered with the private insurance market.

"Abortion is not true health care and people who object will not have to contribute their own tax dollars or insurance premiums for elective abortions," Right to Life of Michigan President Barbara Listing said in a statement.

The Michigan petition is one of a series of state initiatives in recent years that attempt to limit abortions, including banning the procedure after 20 weeks and enacting new restrictions on abortion providers. Eight other states have similar abortion insurance laws, according to the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-abortion rights research group.

The Michigan initiative drew the ire of Democratic state lawmakers. Michigan Democrats argued that the initiative provided no exceptions for rape or incest and the legislature should have let the matter go before voters in November 2014.

"Legislative Republicans are once again catering to the whims of special interest groups, and the citizens suffer," state Representative Vicki Barnett, a Democrat, said in a statement. "Now, Michigan women need to plan ahead for 'rape insurance' in case the absolute worst happens."

Democratic state Senate leaders called for its immediate repeal.

The petitioners submitted about 316,000 signatures, well above the 258,088 needed to put the initiative before the legislature. The signatures submitted represented about 3 percent of Michigan's population of 9.9 million.

Can we please...

What is THE weirdest, freakiest, mind-blowing, or most unbelievable movie you have ever seen, and why?

Im talking about movies that make you sit there thinking to yourself "did I just really SEE that"?, "was I dreaming that"?, "what the HELL was that"?, "OMG, OMG, OMG"!, or just leave you totally in disbelief or speechless.

So a recent article in Rolling Stone magazine revealed,
in a recent interview with Manson,
that he is indeed bisexual....

Great!

Another thing the conservatives can twist and turn to make a vile case against all LGBT people....

The religious nuts will have a field day with this story also.

Can't wait to see what they come up with!

  Things That I've Noticed
Posted by: Guest - 11-18-2013, 09:28 AM - Forum: Everyday-Stories - Replies (10)

I have gotten into a weird argument last month with another intern in UAE. I guess we somehow got into both of our nerves. The result, he started insulting me on how white-washed I am and how I shouldn't call myself an Asian. And 2 months ago, I went to this Taiwanese gather up party with my Taiwanese friend (I'm from the mainland China), and some people didn't really like my heritage.

These events made me realize that some things about my past, or anyone's past should be hidden sometimes. Not all the people in the world can be open to some of things in your past. Foe example, I'm born in China, but I have spent 11 years of my childhood in Japan, thus I more native to Japan than I am native to China. In addition, I also do not speak Mandarin, I can only understand 60% to 70% of what people say in Mandarin. Whenever someone asks me where I'm from, I don't hesitate and just say I was born in China, raised in Japan. However, this information can actually disturb people from China and Japan equally. Since China and Japan never really had a nice relationship with each other, sometimes I'm torn between the 2 heritages that I represent. When I'm talking with some Chinese or Korean people, sometimes I have to hide the Japan part of my heritage. And when I talking to Japanese people, I have to hide the Chinese part of my heritage. It kind of sucks, but the world hasn't really healed from the wars that happened over the centuries.

Overall, I really learned that I can offend a person so much just by telling where I grew up. It totally sucks to keep a secret or make lies to certain people.

Enders Game - paying money to a homophobe
Posted by: Guest - 11-07-2013, 11:26 PM - Forum: Movies - Replies (17)

I was going to add a reply to the other threads on this, but they are already closed.

So the author of Enders Game is a huge homophobe. He preaches and practices anti-gay bigotry.

I was wanting to see this movie, but upon reading many of the online articles about this jerk, I wont be seeing it.

One article claims he wont be making money off the ticket sales. Boohoo....he was paid upfront, millions of dollars, by the movie company because they knew this would happen. And just in case they didnt make enough money on it, they paid this jerk up front. So he's already made his millions, regardless of what ticket sales are. He will also make a percentage of movie income from other movie sections. He will also make a killing off of merchandising, higher book sales, and further book sales from future additions.

Do you spend money on things like this, that knowingly support homophobes and bigots?

Posted by: Guest - 10-30-2013, 09:48 PM - Forum: Movies - Replies (1)

leonardo dicaprio to play hh holmes (americas first serial killer)

does anyone know about this guy hh holmes, its so messed up it reads like fiction.

he specifically renovated a 3 storey building to kill, with stairways to nowhere and a maze of over 100 windowless rooms, hes believed to kill over 200

a relative of hh holmes thinks holmes could of been jack the ripper, experts have said the handwriting could be from the same person.

hh holmes said he was born with the devil in him

leo looks nothing like him though apparantly he thought hard for the role

should be interesting
