Signs of your homosexuality
#11
It was the way I walked and talked as a kid, I was told it was 'girly'.

I guess because I never had a girlfriend or that I showed no sexual interest in women had people I know wondering. My mum had not got a clue, my dad had as did some of my other relatives. I used to play with boys toys mainly as a child, but G.I joe sometimes spent more time out of his clothes than wearing them LOL.The few people that are close to me who I have not told still think of me as straight, so yeah that is me LOL.

I've been told that me being gay didn't come as a surprise, so I guess I radiate some kind of a homosexual aura.

About a year ago I conducted some interviews for a school project. They were recorded and I had to transcribe them. At that point, and much to my shock, I realized I have a little bit of a fabulously fruity voice...

I'm not exactly a hypermasculine manly man and some gay guys have kind of sensed my sexuality based on just looking at me. Usually though, people ARE kind of surprised when I come out.
LOL exactly the same. XD
I don't like rough things, I prefer intellectual things etc, since I was kid. Never been into feminine things, but also I wasn't into football (actually I didn't dislike football when I was a kid.)

Also, for me, but maybe not is because of my voice. I don't "act" with my voice, I think it's genetical, I have a voice very similar to the one of my mom! And being polite and reserved living in a village near the mountains with rough-rural people ... this is a kind of thing, I suppose.
More than 'gay' sometimes someone told me: Are you from the capital? O_o

AlohaS Wrote:I'm sure we've all heard the typical exclamations of "I always knew he was gay, he played with Barbie instead of GI Joe" or "instead of sports he watched ballet". Or some such typical comments.

So what did people say were signs that made them always wonder if you were gay (or always knew)?

For me, a few told me that it was the way I sat, my mannerisms, some of the ways I talk with my hands, that I kiss like a girl, my sensitivity, and my emotional reactions being stereotypically feminine.

This thread is not meant to start any philosophical discussions or a debate on what is typical or not. Please just find the fun about this one and respond accordingly. Smile
"he played with Barbie instead of GI Joe" It's funny that you mentioned that because that's exactly one of the things I did when I was a kid, though I usually made them dive-bomb off a buildings instead of playing dress up

Nope....

Can't recall anyone, who did / does not know me calling me out on this.

Often asked where's my wife (does that mean people expect me to be straight)? I suppose so... My answer is "never been married" and leave it at that.

But I have no problem, I'm completely out, at work as well.

Although my childhood was fucked-up, I did everything from build go-carts and forts and roll down the hill in a tyre and jump off the roof and ride bicycle to knitting on the bus...

I just did pretty much whatever took my fancy....

So I suppose I have always been "daft"

I tend to speak softly. I have heard fellow classmates in middle school exclaim "He speaks like damn f***ing gay". It was hurtful.

I'm also quite polite and gentle by nature. There was once where another guy asked me " Are you gay ? Cos you are so soft and gentle. I have some gay friends who are like you. " I'm not sure whether this is a right stereotype for gays.

There was also one incident in high school whereby the teacher asked every student in my class the no. of children they would like to have in the future. When it was my turn, some student shouted "Oh he is going to marry a man not a woman." And the whole class roared in laughter, including the teacher.

I guess I exhibit gay characteristics to others.

I always knew, no actions, quirks, mannerisms, I was just like every other nine year old kid save that I told my family I was a homosexual. I would require sex with me as soon as I was proficient. That was attended to and then I took a lover at 13. (I was 13, he was 43.) For the next 57 years there were no questions in my mind as to my sexuality. When people said, a fine looking man like you, marry, you'd have great children, you'd be a great father. To which I would answer, if I man can get pregnant, then, yes, perhaps all those things may happen. When I was a child the closest I got to doing "gay things" was to go on an anthropological dig in the tailings of a gold mine. You know, every gay guy want a gay bauble; I wanted a fossil I could trace back at least 85 million years. My point, and it's an important one, is that some males are just homosexual by nature and DNA. That was me. I had many years of being called names, allusions were made but...when I walked to the Podium and the President of the University introduced the Doctor, a recent Nobel nominee, no one mentioned my being gay. Funny that, isn't it. Don't creep around what you are. If you have mannerisms, they are yours, if you talk with your hands, so do Italian and Argentine men. They are as masculine as they come. Take pride in knowing what you are in a world where confusion is seemingly wished on us by column after person who "thinks" they no how to run our lives. Hogwash. Learn to run your own life and don't fear the one person you should love most, yourself. Throw out the self-help books and DVDs and make room for a classy shelf of the kind of porn you favour. You are a human with all the rights and privileges therein. Others don't agree? Fine. Your friends worry that you're not "happy" ask them to define "happiness" and watch them fumble and gag and recite shibbolets about homes and families and security and...and then they run down. Don't interject just listen to them realize they don't know what the fuck happiness is save the definitions they got from books and others...all without questioning. Homosexuals are just like every one else, a fact that's being more and more recognized. That there are those who must pigeon hole us for their own purposes, pigeon hole them and don't see them again. They'll be puzzle for they will feel they're trying to "save" you although from what is never really identified. Stand there as yourself and with a certain grimness of purpose, thank them for enumerating the things they are distressed by and then calm explain that since this litany of faults is so long, you know they'll be happy if they no longer have to see you. It's that simple

Pretty much the same, I guess...
Nobody ever said they knew I was gay because of anything I did, but my stepmum once commented on how I gesticulate with my hands when I talk, being very debate-like. But that was just one time when I was like 13 years old, long before I knew about my sexuality.
